Sustainable Practice: The Course
I'm developing a course for art schools and artists called Sustainable Practice centered around how one sustains an art practice outside of the artificial context of art school.
People have coaches and therapists for other processes, yet students are not trained to be self-aware of their practice in art school. Once they leave art school, they have zero direction on how to apply their in-school practice to their actual life.
By using your time in art school to become self-aware of your creative process, you can learn how to anticipate your art-making needs and support your practice in the long-term.
The course objective aims to answer [with medical metaphor in brackets]
- What are your patterns of creation [your pre-existing conditions]?
- What are the stages of flow and stuck-ness [health and injury]?
- What are some tools you can use to aid you along those stages [exercises and workouts]?
- What types of stimuli inspire your practice [vitamins and supplements]?
- How do you incorporate your art practice into your everyday life [your health regimen into your routine]?
